Course Description

Animal Health and Performance K9, Feline, and Equine Nutrition

Participants will explore the fundamentals of species-specific nutrition, including life-stage requirements, the impact of nutrition on disease prevention and recovery, reading and interpreting feed labels, and identifying signs of nutritional neglect or abuse in field settings.

The training will also cover:

  • Key differences between feline, canine, and equine digestive systems
  • The role of macronutrients and micronutrients
  • Evaluating commercial vs. specialty diets
  • Common myths and feeding mistakes
  • Nutrition-based evidence considerations in cruelty investigations


Whether you work in the field, a clinic, or the courtroom, this session will equip you with the tools to recognize nutritional issues and make informed decisions to improve animal outcomes.

Continuing Education Credit

Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to apply for continuing education credits from Colorado State University. Veterinary professionals may apply to receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

This class is approved for Colorado Bureau of Animal Protection Agents for CE credit.
