Course Description: 

Designed for animal law enforcement, veterinary practitioners, and animal welfare professionals, this course provides an overview on forensic techniques essential for investigating cases of animal neglect and abuse. Participants will learn the crucial skills of forensic photography, precise documentation, and evidence handling, equipping them to uncover critical details that can make or break a case.

Through real-life examples, and expert instruction, participants will learn how to:

• Capture high-quality, case-relevant photographs to document animal conditions, injuries, and environmental factors in neglect and abuse cases.
• Build thorough and legally sound case files, ensuring accurate and organized documentation to support investigative findings.
• Properly handle, store, and preserve evidence, from biological samples to environmental clues, to maintain integrity for court.

Continuing Education Credit

Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to apply for continuing education credits from Colorado State University. Veterinary professionals may apply to receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
