Course Description

Animal Law Enforcement Officers often face challenges when writing affidavits and preparing warrants. This can lead to feelings of intimidation and confusion during legal procedures. To address this, we are excited to announce our upcoming class on Warrant Preparation specifically designed for Animal Law Enforcement Officers.

What You'll Learn

This class will provide step-by-step guidance on:

  • Warrant Preparation: Learn the essential elements and procedures for preparing a warrant.
  • Warrant Execution: Understand the best practices for executing a warrant effectively.
  • Chain of Custody: Maintain proper chain of custody with living evidence animals to ensure legal compliance.

Course Content

Through real-life case examples, we will cover how to establish probable cause in various animal neglect scenarios, including:

  • General neglect situations
  • Animal hoarding complaints
  • Caught on video scenarios
  • Abandoned animal calls
  • Cockfighting incidents
  • Information received from veterinarians

Continuing Education Credit

Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to apply for continuing education credits from Colorado State University. Veterinary professionals may apply to receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

This class is approved for Colorado Bureau of Animal Protection Agents for CE credit.
